Learn about the ins and outs of floodplain hazard and river corridor maps with Sacha Pealer from the VT DEC Rivers Program. Sacha will demonstrate how to access and interpret map data, understand NFIP insurance requirements, municipal and state regulations, flood mitigation opportunities for buildings and strategies to help prospective purchasers reduce losses from flooding and channel erosion.

The objective of this course is to provide Real Estate professionals with a basic understanding of:

The various flood hazards which affect properties in Vermont,
The roles and responsibilities of property owners and local municipalities within the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and
Acceptable floodproofing techniques generally used in residential and commercial buildings.

Sacha Pealer
Sacha Pealer serves as a floodplain manager and river scientist for the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, Rivers Program. She works with members of the public on river corridor and floodplain issues in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. She provides National Flood Insurance Program support, technical assistance and permitting, geomorphic assessment and mapping, and river corridor conservation and restoration planning. Sacha became a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) in 2014.

Because VAR reserved a seat in anticipation of your attendance; a fee in the amount of 15% of the original cost will be assessed for all cancellation or transfer requests received within 11 – 2 days of the course offering. No refund will be given within 2 days of cancelling. No shows, i.e. individuals who did not sign in or out, who arrived late or left early or who did not show up at all – for any reason – are ineligible for any refund or transfer.
