Learn about the ins and outs of floodplain hazard and river corridor maps with Ned Swanberg from the VT DEC Rivers Program. Ned will demonstrate how to access and interpret map data, understand NFIP insurance requirements, municipal and state regulations, flood mitigation opportunities for buildings and strategies to help prospective purchasers reduce losses from flooding and channel erosion.

Learning Objectives
The objective of this course is to provide Real Estate professionals with a basic understanding of:
 The various flood hazards which affect properties in Vermont,
 The roles and responsibilities of property owners and local municipalities within the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and
 Acceptable floodproofing techniques generally used in residential and commercial buildings.

Ned Swanberg
Ned Swanberg is the Central Vermont Regional Floodplain Manager for the Rivers Program of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources. Ned manages providing community leaders with access to community maps, data and incentives for flood resilience. Ned is a Certified Floodplain Manager and holds an MST in Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England.

Rebecca Pfeiffer
Rebecca Pfeiffer is the Floodplain Regulatory Team Lead and is the Northwest Vermont Floodplain Manager with the Vermont Rivers Program at the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation. In her position, she leads the floodplain regulatory team, as well as supports communities in Northwest Vermont as they plan for flooding, provides technical support and review for development proposals in floodplains and river corridors, and provides and supports outreach and public education efforts. The Floodplain Managers also review Act 250/Section 248 projects within their region for floodplain or river corridor impacts, and issues State Flood Hazard Area & River Corridor permits where needed. Rebecca has been with the Rivers Program since 2006, and has a BS in Natural Resource Management and a Certificate in Remote Sensing & Geomatics from Rutgers University.

No refund will be given within 2 days of cancelling. No shows, i.e. individuals who did not sign in or out, who arrived late or left early or who did not show up at all – for any reason – are ineligible for any refund or transfer.
